Boys Don't Cry

Ive recently watched the movie "Boys don't cry" which stars Hilary Swank. This is the movie which earned her an oscar for Best Actress in 99'. After watching the movie, it was surreal to think that this really had happened to someone in the past. Hilary Swank's performance in this movie was outstanding. She so deserves the golden globe and oscar that she won way back. When the movie ended, I came away from the movie realizing the courage you have to possess to be different, the dangers from it are real and we must admire those brave enough among us to be.

This movie made me think about the sexual differences and what it means to have a sex change (or want one) or being trapped in a gender you dont want.

Here's a plot summary i got from imdb.com :

Based on actual events. Brandon Teena is the popular new guy in a tiny Nebraska town. He hangs out with the guys, drinking, cussing, and bumper surfing, and he charms the young women, who've never met a more sensitive and considerate young man. Life is good for Brandon, now that he's one of the guys and dating hometown beauty Lana. However, he's forgotten to mention one important detail. It's not that he's wanted in another town for GTA and other assorted crimes, but that Brandon Teena was actually born a woman named Teena Brandon. When his best friends make this discovery, Brandon's life is ripped apart by betrayal, humiliation, rape, and murder.

Obviously this movie is not for kids as it does contain quite graphical scenes. It will make most viewets uncomfortable (well, at least i was uncomfortable) but its the kind of story that i think needs to be told.

Here's a picture of Hilary Swank and the REAL Teena Brandon:
